In a large proportion of adults, yes. Bone-anchored expanders such as MARPE and MSE transfer force directly to the palatal bone through miniscrews rather than through the teeth, which allows the midpalatal suture to separate well beyond the age at which conventional expanders stop working. Both are miniscrew-supported skeletal expanders. MSE is a specific commercial design with a fixed screw configuration; MARPE describes the wider category, including appliances custom-designed to an individual palate from CBCT data.
