What Is It?ما هو؟

A palate expander is a fixed appliance anchored to the back teeth with a small screw at the centre. Gentle, gradual turns of the screw apply pressure to the midline suture of the palate, which is still open in children, widening the upper jaw over a period of weeks to correct crossbites, crowding and narrow airways.موسّع الحنك جهاز ثابت يُرتكز على الأسنان الخلفية مع برغي صغير في المنتصف. تُطبّق اللفات التدريجية اللطيفة للبرغي ضغطاً على الدرز المنتصفي للحنك، الذي لا يزال مفتوحاً عند الأطفال، لتوسيع الفك العلوي على مدى أسابيع لتصحيح العضة المتصالبة والتزاحم والمجاري الهوائية الضيقة.

A palate expander works only while the midline palatal suture is still open, which is why it is used in growing children rather than adults — once that suture fuses, typically in the mid-to-late teens, a conventional expander can no longer separate it through the teeth, and a bone-anchored MSE is needed instead.
