MARPE combines a palatal expander with 2–4 miniscrews custom-planned from your CBCT scan to engage the strongest available bone. What Is Maxillary Transverse Deficiency?ما هو القصور العرضي للفك العلوي؟
A maxillary transverse deficiency describes an upper jaw that is narrower than ideal in width. It can present as a narrow palate, a posterior crossbite, dental crowding, or a constricted nasal floor. In growing children the mid-palatal suture is still open and responds readily to conventional expanders. Who May Be Suitable?من قد يكون مناسباً؟
Late adolescents. Patients whose mid-palatal suture is beginning to mature may still respond to bone-anchored expansion, sometimes avoiding the need for surgically-assisted expansion later. You will be shown how to turn the appliance following a schedule set by Dr. Pacha, and how to clean carefully around the miniscrews and expander to minimise irritation. Once the target width is achieved, the device is generally left passively in place for a period to allow new bone to consolidate, followed by a retention phase to help stabilise the result. MARPE was developed specifically because, once the mid-palatal suture matures, conventional tooth-borne expanders have limited skeletal effect in many adults. By anchoring onto bone with miniscrews, MARPE can achieve meaningful skeletal widening in a proportion of adult patients without surgery. Most patients report pressure or mild discomfort during activation rather than significant pain.
