A Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) is a small titanium mini-implant, typically 1.5–2mm in diameter, placed through the gum into the underlying bone to serve as a fixed, unmoving anchor point for tooth movement. Conventional braces can only move teeth relative to one another — every action has an equal and opposite reaction, so anchoring a movement against other teeth inevitably shifts them too. A TAD anchors directly to bone instead, giving Dr. Pacha absolute control to move specific teeth in a specific direction without disturbing the rest of the arch. TADs are used whenever a tooth movement would otherwise shift the anchor teeth it relies on — closing a gap without letting neighbouring teeth drift, moving a molar without pulling other teeth forward, or supporting more complex bite corrections.
